Collect Runes; upgrade skills.
To upgrade all of your skills in Dishonored, you must collect Runes that are scattered throughout the city of Dunwall. This guide will show you the locations of all of the Runes. For more Dishonored Guides, check out our Sokolov Paintings Location Guide and Safe Combinations Guide.
High Overseer Campbell (Hounds Pit Area)
RUNE 01
From the first time the Outsider visits you.
RUNE 02
In the area near the Hounds Pit, just follow the marker.
RUNE 03
Buy from Piero (one time only).
High Overseer Campbell
RUNE 04
In Granny’s basement at a shrine to the Outsider.
RUNE 05
Complete Granny’s Gentlemen Callers part 1 (Deal with the three men).
RUNE 06
Complete Granny’s Gentlemen Callers part 2 (poison the elixir supply).
RUNE 07
Metal guard hut past the second “Wall of Light”.
RUNE 08
In the backyard of the Overseer’s building, in the Workshop (break the skylight on the roof to get in).
RUNE 09
In a secret room that can be accessed by clicking a button on a wall mounted statue at the bottom of the stairwell closest to the Overseer’s chamber.
RUNE 10
In the room where you can poison the wine, or not, look for this rune to be mounted on the wall.
House of Pleasure (Hounds Pit Area)
RUNE 11
In the sewer under the Hounds Pit, near the two Weepers past the gate. Inside the upended cabinet.
RUNE 12
In the sewer under the Hounds Pit, near Rune 11, swim right up to the big sewer grate and reach through it.

RUNE 13
In Dr. Galvani’s secret lab, accessed by activating a book on the bookshelf in the main lab.
RUNE 14
The storeroom near the street entrance between Clavering Street and the Golden Cat. Blink or jump to the second floor, then again once inside.
RUNE 15
In one of the uppper rooms in The Golden Cat, next to where you find Emily.
RUNE 16
Second floor of the main lobby, across from the Madam’s office.
RUNE 17
In the Art Dealer’s safe, the combination is random and must be obtained by taking the quest from Slackjaw.
The Royal Physician
RUNE 18
While in South Side, there is a side path to a metal walkway where you will find a chain to climb. The rune is in the room at the top.
RUNE 19
There is a house you can enter next to Pratchett’s house, the rune will be on a shrine in there.
RUNE 20
Inside the safe of Pratchett’s house. The code is 473.
RUNE 21
On the desk when you first enter Midrow Substation.
RUNE 22
In Sokolov’s laboratory on the upper level.
Lady Boyle’s Last Party
RUNE 23
Blink to the balcony of a weeper house, right at the start of the bridge.
RUNE 24
Between the Boyle Estate and the Pratchett Warehouse, Facing the Boyle Estate entrance, there is a rune in the water to the left.
RUNE 25
In the vault in the basement of the estate. The vault key is in Lydia Boyle’s bedroom, on the second floor in the nightstand.
Return to the Tower (Hounds Pit)
RUNE 26
If you dueled Lord Shaw at the Boyle Estate, Pendleton will give you a rune when you talk to him.
RUNE 27
In your room if you spared the life of the other Boyle sisters.
RUNE 28
Speak with Callista in the bar, she’ll tell you that Emily is hiding from her, find Emily and she will give you a rune.
Return to the Tower
RUNE 29
Under one of the beds in the bunkhouse near the entrance.
RUNE 30
On the Outsider Shrine in the torturer’s chamber, which is on the lower level.
RUNE 31
In the Lord Regent’s bedroom.
RUNE 32
From the second floor, exit to the Dunwall Exterior Rooftop. The rune will be in the Lord Regent’s safe room.
Flooded District
RUNE 33
In the Greaves Factory, when getting your gear back there will be a rune sitting in the open in the swamp reeds.
RUNE 34
Get Daud’s key and enter his tunnel in Central Rudshore. The rune is at the bottom of the shaft.
RUNE 35
In the Gateway Tunnel area, there is a rune on the roof of an apartment with open windows.
RUNE 36
Old Port District when you meet Granny Rags again. This rune only appears if you’ve completed Granny’s side missions earlier in the game.
RUNE 37
Old Port District. You come across an encampment of neutral survivors (Low Chaos) or Weepers (High Chaos). The rune is in this encampment’s ditch.
The Loyalists
RUNE 38
Inside Piero’s workshop. You can reach it by using the workshop’s second story entrance to gain entry.
The Light at the End
RUNE 39
In the Kingsparrow Gatehouse Drainage, look for the “Gatehouse Drainage” marker turn the valve above the drainage marker to open the drain pipe’s cover.
