The season is over.
The latest DLC release for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 brings an end to the Content Season and will have to hold us over for a few more weeks until Black Ops 2 is released. For those who didn’t purchase the Premium Elite membership it’s been a long and frustrating road compared to those who’ve enjoyed the benefit of early access to the DLC. Whether you’re getting it for “free” or not, let’s take a look at what we get in our final DLC drop of the season.
What You Get
Content Collection #4 includes five new multiplayer maps: Gulch, Parish, Boardwalk, Decommission and Offshore. The first three are new to everyone and the last two are only new to non-premium members as they were included in July’s DLC drop for Premium Elite members, which you can read more about here. Moving on to the new maps, Gulch is up first and is set in an old abandoned Mining Town with everything from Mineshafts, Tool Sheds and a River flowing through the middle of the map. It’s a decent sized map, which should cater to pretty much everyone except for maybe Snipers, with no open stretches to set up a good shot. They always seem to find a way though, don’t they?
Next up is Parish, which is set in a Military occupied, war-torn section of New Orleans. It’s a smaller map, but there are still plenty of buildings to enter, which helps make it seem bigger than it really is. Close Quarters Combat enthusiasts will appreciate the tight corners and narrow pathways of Parish and Shotguns should be a common sight. Last but not least is Boardwalk, which is set along the famous Jersey Shore.
Boardwalk was probably my favorite map of the bunch, with an atmosphere that is familiar and full of fun. I’ve been to the Jersey Coast a few times in my life and had a blast while I was there so it was pretty neat to see it in a multiplayer map. Who doesn’t love going to the beach, hitting the roller coaster, playing arcade games and shooting dudes in the face on a sunny afternoon? It’s also a well-rounded map and should appeal to all play styles. Just don’t stand around waiting to buy tickets for the rides though, or you’ll probably get a knife in your back.
Verdict
Premium Elite members will get this content for “free”, so there’s no reason not to add the new maps to your collection. Everyone else has to pay 1200 MS Points, but if you’re still going strong with MW3 then you’re going to want to grab these new maps. They may not be the stars of the show, but they close out the season nicely.
Price: Free for Elite Members, 1200 MS Points ($15) for everyone else.
Release Date: Sept 6th, 2012 on Xbox 360. Coming soon to PS3 and PC.
