A new Zombie MMO emerges.
Last week Hammerpoint Interactive announced The War Z, a new First-Person MMO set five years after a zombie outbreak which has killed 95% of the world’s population, which is set to release this fall exclusively on PC.
There are a million Zombie games out there, with more and more MMO’s popping up every day, but The War Z has a few interesting features that really got my attention. First off, it is an MMO but it won’t have any subscription fees, micro-transactions or paid DLC, with only a one-time purchase fee like a regular game and all of its new content will be free for everyone. The next thing that caught my eye was that while Hammerpoint have created a detailed back story for the game, they aren’t creating any missions or quests. The game is an open world sandbox, leaving it up to the player to explore and survive in the world, learn about its history and create quests for other players along the way. They will provide us the tools to create quests and provide rewards to those who complete them.
It’s not about having superpowers or crazy unrealistic weapons, it’s about trying to survive in the real world that has been overrun by zombies. The fact that The War Z is being designed to be as realistic as possible to what life might be like if the zombie apocalypse actually happened is what intrigues me the most. It’s something that I’m sure a lot of you have thought about as well and The War Z is shaping up to be the game to let us live out that fantasy together.
The War Z is set to release this Fall, but there will also be a Closed Beta that will start some time this Summer. Check out the first screenshots of the world in The War Z below, and then sign-up for the beta here.
