Actually play SSX with your friends now.
Today EA released the newest title update for their latest incarnation of the SSX series, bringing the title up to version 3.0 and, adding two important new features. Whether you’re a current player, or one who’s been thinking about picking up SSX I think you’re going to like this latest update.
First and foremost, head to head multiplayer has arrived. That’s right, it probably should have been included when the game was released back in February but, now you can go head to head, in real time, with up to five of your friends in either Trick It or Race It Events. The global map is now littered with events labelled as 3-2-1-Go! events, EA’s new name for head to head multiplayer events.
Entering one of these events is much like the asynchronous events that were already included with the game but instead of hitting the slopes right away, you’ll be popped into the helicopter with a lobby board on your right. Instead of competing and then waiting a few days for the event to complete to see where you rank, you can start the event with as few as two people and battle it out for top prize. Players can also invite their friends to custom 3-2-1-Go! events where you set the rules and won’t be bothered by the public.
I’m a big fan of the game so I gave a few of these events a try and they’re a lot of fun, my only complaint is that in the Trick It events, you can’t see your opponents score until the end of the run.
Also available in the SSX 3.0 update is the Freeride option, which EA are saying was the most requested feature by the SSX community. In this mode there are no rules, no scores and no other riders, just you and the mountain. See you on the hill!
