The Elder Scrolls Online Details and Screens Leak

All around Tamriel.

Well, it didn’t take long but details from Game Informer’s big reveal of The Elder Scrolls Online have leaked. Bethesda’s new MMO will take place 1000 years before before the events of Skyrim and will deal with the Deadric Prince, Malag Bol’s attempt to drag all of Tamriel into Oblivion. Fans of the series will understand all of that but I’m sure it won’t be hard for others to follow the story.

The Elder Scrolls Online will feature a slightly different, but none the less distinctive, visual style than other games in the series and the action will be third-person. The plot will carry you through familiar regions of Tamriel, the world of The Elder Scrolls, such as Cyrodiil, Skyrim and Elsweyr.

Like any good MMO you will have your pick of factions to join when creating your character each featuring a handful of Tamriel’s races. There wasn’t much info on the driving forces behind, or ideologies of each faction but we do know their names and the races that are a part of each.

The Ebonheart Pack will include Nords, Dunmer (Dark Elves) and the Argonians; The Aldmeri Dominion will include the Altmer and Bosmer (High Elves and Wood Elves) and Khajiit; and finally the Daggerfall Covenant will be made up of the Redguard, Bretons and Orcs. Strange bedfellows, in some cases, if you ask me.

Creative Director Paul Sage, in an interview with Game Informer, says “We’ve really got to create a compelling game first. It needs to be comfortable for people who are coming in from a typical massively multiplayer game that has the same control mechanisms, but it also has to appeal to Skyrim players. You want to hit those touchstones, but more important than that, you’ve got to create an experience that’s unique and fun.”

Time will tell whether the crew at Zenimax Online Studios can make a combat and levelling system that will appeal to both Elder Scrolls fans and MMO fans but we’re interested to see this game in action. We’ll have much more to come on The Elder Scrolls Online.
