Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection 2 Review

Posted by Peter Carpenter | 16 May 2012 |

The content just keeps on coming.

Another month, another round of downloadable content for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. This month, on May 22nd, we are being treated to the Content Collection #2 which includes three standard multiplayer maps, two new Spec Ops missions and an entirely new multiplayer playlist, with four new maps of its own. It’s a good month to be a Call of Duty fan.

Starting with the new standard multiplayer maps, you get Sanctuary and Foundation which were actually released last month, but only for Premium Elite members, and then a brand new map for everyone called Oasis, which is set in an upscale Hotel and Resort in the United Arab Emirates. All three maps are fun to play, but I especially liked Sanctuary, just based on its overall look and great design.

The two new Spec Ops missions are Kill Switch and Iron Clad, and both are highly entertaining. Kill Switch has you and your partner infiltrating a Russian Comm Station to detonate an EMP. When played cooperatively, one player will control Ozone, who is high above on a bridge over your location, helping to clear your path with his Sniper Rifle. The other player controls Scarecrow, who has to go on foot to make his way through the streets to detonate the EMP. If you play solo, you will actually control Scarecrow at the first, and then switch to Ozone to do some Sniping. It’s a great mission and I really liked how you get to switch between the two characters to mix things up.

The next Spec Ops mission is Iron Clad and requires you to clear a path for a Tank by using C4 on different obstacles in its way through the streets of Hamburg. When playing solo, you can mark an area and have the Tank fire on it and even get more ammo from its rear. As you blow up obstacles you will have to move the tank through each section, taking out enemy soldiers with RPG’s and even suicide bombers before they can get to your tank. When playing with a friend, one of you will get to control the Tank, which is always awesome, and the other must clear the path for you. When playing as the Tank, you have full control over it to shred up the streets as you see fit. I can see a lot of fighting over who gets to be the Tank with this one.

The new multiplayer playlist is called Face Off and features both Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed in 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 matches. Face Off is all about seeing who is better on their own, without a big team standing behind them. The Face Off maps are definitely smaller than normal, but I still found that when you are playing 1 vs 1 there were still gaps of silence in the action. This mode was supposed to bring fast-paced, in your face, constant action, but it doesn’t always end up that way. If you buy the Content Collection #2 then you will get four new Face Off maps; Lookout, Getaway, Erosion and Aground. Even if you don’t buy it, there are still two free Face Off maps that everyone can download to check it out, which was pretty cool of them to do. I’m not sure I will play a ton of Face Off, but it’s a nice idea for those who either hate having their team bring them down, or just want to go head to head to see who is the best.

Closing Comments

Content Collection #2 for Modern Warfare 3 still doesn’t have a price confirmed yet, but I would assume it will be 1200 MS Points ($15) like the last one. It’s worth that price as it’s jam-packed with content. You get the brand new Face Off playlist, two new awesome Spec Ops missions and seven multiplayer maps. That is more content than some games ever see, and this is only just past the half way point of the MW3 content season. Hopefully the rest of the content keeps getting better and better.

I think these new maps look awsome but when will the collection 2 come out for ps3

It comes out on PS3 and PC today, I would expect it to be available by the morning.

I haven’t played oasis and sanctuary is pretty cool but Foundation is the worst map on MW3, it’s literally a camper/sniper wet dream as there’s so much ledges and broken parts to prone camp with a sniper rifler. Horrible.

It’s a shame that MW3 maps are not living up to expectations. Maybe activision should fire the entire infinity ward group(all of them, whoever is left from Vince and Jason’s crew) and stick with maps like black ops. Can’t say i wasted money on elite but the MP maps aren’t good.
