Dragon’s Dogma From A Different Sky DLC Review

Posted by Scott Grant | 31 May 2012 |

Arisen! This DLC is lame. Arisen?

Only just out of the gate itself, Dragon’s Dogma is already getting a few pieces of DLC. Among others that will net you some gear is the From a Different Sky series that promises a new set of quests each week for eight weeks. With two entries in this series already available we’re able to see this DLC for what it really is. Not much of anything.

Dragons Dogma Pawn Guild

Chillin' at the Guild.

What You Get

Do you all remember that weird job board in the basement of the Pawn Guild in Grand Soren? That one that says it was for DLC only? Well now you’ll get a chance to use it, though you’re likely to be disappointed. Each week, when you purchase a part of From a Different Sky, you’ll have ten missions show up on this board. But hold on, you’ll only be able to grab six at a time since, for whatever reason, that’s all the quests a board can handle at one time.

After you take the first six quests you’ll be sent off, around the world, to find a medallion. These medallions aren’t guarded by a boss or anything, but they may be in hard to reach places. After you pick up each one you’ll get a pile of experience and Rift Crystals. These medallions can also be sold for around five thousand gold as well, but that’s all they’re good for. There isn’t any story involved, just a whole lot of walking and fetching.

Verdict

If you ask me, From a Different Sky is just a way for Capcom to dress up the fact that you’re buying gold, experience and Rift Crystals as that’s essentially what these quests are. If that’s what you’re looking for, by all means buy these ‘quest’ packs, but if you were looking for additional story, battles or real content then I suggest you move along. Capcom is mum on whether or not collecting all eighty medallions will get you anything, but even still, you would have to buy all eight of these DLC packs to get it so I can’t recommend that.

@Frontlobby The problem is that the regular DLC only abound in quantity and not quality, as they just send you to fetch an item for some time like a dog without involving any original story, which is quite a bummer for an RPG don’t you think ?

Reading all these reviews and user comments I cannot help but wonder is it just me or is it not just nice to be playing a game with active, regular content being added. I mean most games are bringing out 1 or 2 DLC packs months into release which are usually a disappointment. At least with Capcom spoon feeding it to us while the game is fresh it comes across as a more active feed then you would get receiving it as a lump sum later on

That doesnt make any sense dude. If a quest is shitty, its shitty. On top of that you have to pay for them. In what world is that a good deal? Of course active updates are good, but it should go without saying that crappy content (and this is as bare bones as one could possibly ever get) is not worth anyone’s time. If you are trying to support Capcom because you liek the game, then its better to indicate to them that they are ruining the great experience they’ve made (im loving the game) by NOT purchasing bad dlc. If they wish to make money off of dlc (which obviously they do) then buy it only when it is of good quality. otherwise you may as just mail them money of your own accord, without getting a thing in exchange

I absolutely love this game but sounds like a bad DLC, a major gold loot.

DLC is major crap….love the game, but it really is just about gold looting…..not needed and lame

  • Strider9

I have the game and I am enjoying it immensely… But this sounds like the worst DLC to offer for a game that already has several fetch quests with rewarding loot.
DLC needs to be good this time. Well thought out and adding something new to the story. We’ll see. But this DLC I won’t touch. Thanks for the head’s up!

Thanks for this. I absolutely love this game, but thanks to your take on it, I’ll give this DLC a miss. Hopefully Capcom will release something with substance in it in the future.
