Debut Trailer For Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD

Posted by Peter Carpenter | 11 Dec 2011 |

Another great game gets a remake.

Back in 1999, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was released and quickly became the Skateboarding game that all future skateboarding games would be compared to. Since then, there has been 13 games released under the Tony Hawk banner, some sequels, some spin-offs and even a few with a plastic skateboard controller.

As the series grows, it continues to go downhill in popularity with gamers and critics alike, with the last game Tony Hawk Shred, selling only 5000 copies in its first week of release. Needless to say, they needed something to bring them back to the success they had at the start of the series, and last night at the VGAs, Tony Hawk announced their new game; Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD.

THPS HD will be a compilation of levels from THPS 1 & 2, with levels such as Warehouse (featured in the trailer), School and Downhill already confirmed in the game. It’s a move that isn’t surprising as 2011 was the year of remakes, with plenty more set to release in 2012, and it may just be the miracle they needed to keep the series alive. I’m personally more excited about this remake than any of the last few Tony Hawk games. The skateboard controller was a cool idea, but in the end, it just wasn’t as fun as I had hoped, and I would much rather go back to the roots of the series and rack up some high scores on huge ramps with a controller any day of the week.
