You spoke, they listened.
THQ want you to like them. They want you to love their games. They opened up their forums and swallowed up all the complaints and feedback you gave on the previous two UFC Undisputed games to help make Undisputed 3 the best game yet. Now they have taken your questions on what they have changed in UFC Undisputed 3 and answered them, providing new details of the game.
Clinch System
The clinch is an awesome beast, you can hold your opponent in and just beat the crap out of them with elbows and knees. In the previous games you said it was a bit too hard to escape the clinch, well not anymore. Now when you’re on the offensive, as you throw those knees, elbows and punches your grip will loosen with each one, eventually allowing your opponent to escape. Also they have increased the rate of damage so that you can’t just beat on them all day, they will be either KO’d or knocked back sooner than before.
While on the defensive side of the clinch you could only transition your way out before. Now you have more options. You can now punch your way out, or you can navigate your fighter to safety. If you navigate toward your opponent you now close the gap and help negate his ability to throw knees. If you move side to side, you work to loosen his grip, and if you move back you loosen it even more as he throws attacks.
Take Down Intercept Knee
Now when your opponent shoots in for the takedown, throwing a knee while they are shooting in is more powerful and will result in more knockdowns and more KO’s. You hold away from the opponent and press the kick button at the perfect time and it will result in a knee to the face.
Cage Improvements
The positions against the cage have increased in UFC Undisputed 3. On the ground, from the attack position you can now move to the seated open cage and the seated half guard positions. On the defensive side you can now use the cage to wall walk to get back to your feet. Cage submissions have also been added such as the guillotine or Kimura if your back is against the cage. Maybe the coolest new cage improvement is if you are close enough to the cage you can kick off of it to better adjust your position to throw up submissions such as arm bars or triangle chokes. What, no running, jump off the cage kicks to the face? Hopefully they are just waiting to talk about cage kicks.
Pride Mode
While not going into great details, they did mention Pride mode will stay true to its rules and allow kicks and stomps to the head while the opponent is down. Awesome.
Broken Legs
Leg kick checks have been added and if you time them right, you can check the kick and cause the damage to go to your opponent instead. They also mentioned that a very, very low percentage of the time a perfect leg kick check could cause your opponents leg to break, stopping the fight. To compare, they said this would happen even less than Doctor Stoppages, so don’t expect it to happen much. The fact it could happen at all shows the effort they are putting in to make this the most authentic UFC game yet.
AI Improvements
The AI has been far from perfect in the previous games and they agree and have been working really hard to improve the AI. They have revamped the AI and added a lot of improvements to make them fight more like a real person would if they were controlling them. They updated their timing, their strategies and the overall AI difficulty.
Difficulty
On the topic of difficulty, not only are the AI on Expert mode better, they now have an even harder difficulty called Ultimate. On Ultimate the AI will perform moves and strategies not seen on other difficulties. Such as transition fakes, strike fakes and strong counters.
Recovery and Fatigue
The recovery system in between rounds has been adjusted and you will recover more to each body part. This has been able to make the fights last longer and avoid having that first punch in the 3rd round cause a KO. As the fight goes into the later rounds and your fighter becomes fatigued it will actually now affect your fighters stats such as striking and grappling. The more energy you use, the less powerful each attack becomes, just like in a real UFC fight. As you recover, your stats will go back up but it’s not as quick in the later rounds. This doesn’t mean your fighter will fall over after throwing a punch from exhaustion, but it means fighters won’t be as fresh in round 5 as they were in rounds 1 and 2. This should help create an even more authentic feel to championship fights.
Create A Fighter
Gone are the days of creating super CAF’s. The weighting on stats is even heavier in UFC 3, and no longer will you end up stepping in the cage with someones powerhouse CAF. You can also now customize your walk-outs, from the music to your fighters outfit. This is just a taste of the changes made to the Create A Fighter in career and for online.
UFC Undisputed 3 is shaping up to be the best yet that is for sure. Not only are they working to make the game as authentic to the UFC experience as possible, but they are listening to what you have to say and want to make this game something you will love. To have your say go over to their forums and let them know what you like and don’t like in the games.
