Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12:The Masters Review
Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago. Well, moron… good for Happy Gilm-OH MY GOD!
Over the years I’ve enjoyed watching the Tiger Woods series come together, but it has always been missing one crucial aspect, YOU CAN’T PLAY IN THE MASTERS??!?!? What? That would be like playing ANY other sports game and not being able to win the Stanley Cup (NHL), World Series (MLB) Superbowl (NFL)…etc. The Masters is the biggest event in Golf and to not have that, is almost a waste of time playing the career. With that being said, I very seldom finished a career because I know I won’t be able to play in the masters. Being such a HUGE golf fan, with the new edition of the Tiger woods series “The Masters” it brings a whole new level of commitment, I WANT THAT DAMN GREEN JACKET!!
Single Player
Tiger Woods 12 is practically the same game it’s always been, with a few exceptions, each year the graphics get better and will have different assortment of golfers. This year, they have added a few new features that in my opinion make this the best Tiger Woods thus far. They have added a Caddie, he will give you recommended shots or you can create your own. This feature is great for beginners, but once you become confident you will want to hit the ball farther, go for the green in two and try and sink a shot from 200 yards away. I very seldom use this feature, but that doesn’t mean its not a great idea.
The game still offer the same game modes as any other, but it has a few new modes as well. “Tiger at the Masters” you will play as Tiger in his four Master wins just as he did. For example in 1997 he won his first Green jacket, he won event by 12 strokes and finished the four round with -18. You will need to complete the tournament in the same fashion.
The game is set around “The Masters”, you will be required to create a golfer and begin your amateur season and become good enough to be invited to the Q school, where you will need to win in order to become a professional golfer the PGA Tour. You will need to win many events to be invited to participate in the “Masters”.
It’s not hard to tell that this game was designed around the “Masters”, it also offers a “Masters Moments” mode, where you will need to re-enact legendary key moments through-out history. Such as, in 1958: Arnold Palmer, made an eagle on #13 leading to his first masters, you will play out hole #13 and try to beat his score, to pass you need to birdie, but to master you will need to eagle, are you up to the challenge?
Multiplayer
As like any sports game you are able to challenge anyone around the world. It allows you to compete in all of the same game modes as in the single player. Stroke play, Match play, Skin…etc, you can do it all. It also has LIVE tournaments you can compete in. Be aware that if you have up to four people 18 holes can take a long time to complete. It can be fun to play online, but I choose to look my opponents in the eye while I beat them like a rented mule.
Achievements
It goes with-out saying, this game will take a serious commitment if you intend to get these achievements. Some, like all games, are easy to acquire, but it also offers some really challenging ones too. This I find helps keep me wanting to play the game and to get better. Winning the Masters 7 times in one “Road to the Masters” mode, might be a bit of stretch, but hey, I’m up to the challenge.
Closing Comments
If you’re a die hard Golfer like myself, you will love this game. Even if you’re just sports fanatic, you will enjoy playing this game. They did everything right in this edition and, I can’t wait to see what they come up with next year.
